White on White: Day 58Posted by Claudia (Illinois, United States) on 2 July 2009 in Miscellaneous. Inspired by this lovely image from Barbara, I decided to get out my light tent and play around today. I am trying to learn more about correct exposure and lighting so I decided to concentrate on different values of white Thank you for stopping by and taking time to view my photos. If you have a few extra moments, please leave a comment--they are sincerely appreciated!

Barbara from Florida, United StatesExcellent! I love the different values of white, good choice to practice exposure. I have a long way to go, I will be learning from you. Great work on this. 2 Jul 2009 5:22am @Barbara: Thanks so much, Barbara. I love your Bing! shot and am so glad I decided to get the light tent out and play around after seeing it. :) MJ from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysiawow....great exposures! each of the subjects white levels can be differentiated from one another. 2 Jul 2009 6:08am @MJ: Thank you, MJ! I was really trying for the effect of being able to tell the difference between the shades of white. For me, it took a lot of work! :) Sarito from Basingstoke, United KingdomExcellent work Claudia!! I would love to know what sort of equipment and setup did you use for this? 2 Jul 2009 7:25am @Sarito: Thanks so much, Sarito! I used something like this: http://www.ezauctiontools.com/images/Short_easy_cube_light_tent_studio.gif it is a small, 12" (30.8 cm) nylon tent with two tiny, table top, 110 watt lights. The tent came with 4 background colors: white, black, red and blue. A wide angle lense definitely helps when using the smaller tents! One thing I don't like about the tents is that they have a 'lip' on them. You'll notice that the tent comes up about 6 cm in the front and this gets in the way of the item you are trying to photograph. I know that light boxes are often flat in front which would eliminate this problem. Also, if you do an interent search for homemade light boxes, you can find tutorials on how to make your own. Hope this info helps! @Courtney King: Thank you Courtney K---and thanks for stopping by! seventhray from Wayland, United StatesGreat work!
